Bladder Cancer Screening
Early Detection Saves Lives
Our bladder cancer screening program uses advanced blood-based biomarker testing and urinalysis to help identify warning signs before symptoms appear, giving you a critical head start in protecting your health.
Bladder Cancer: A Growing Concern for Americans
Bladder cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the United States, with an estimated 83,000 new cases diagnosed each year according to the American Cancer Society. When detected early, the five-year survival rate can exceed 95%. At the Stages of Life Medical Institute, we now offer comprehensive bladder cancer screening using advanced blood-based biomarker testing paired with urinalysis. These screening tools help identify warning signs before symptoms ever appear, giving you a critical head start in protecting your health. Our screening program is designed to provide fast, reliable, and accessible results through our trusted lab testing partners.
Screening Accuracy: Non-Invasive and Clinically Validated
Our bladder cancer screening panel combines urine cytology, tumor marker analysis, and blood-based biomarker testing to support early risk detection. These tests have been clinically validated and have been clinically studied as useful tools in identifying potential abnormalities. A positive screening result leads to further diagnostic confirmation, while a negative result may provide reassurance while supporting ongoing monitoring.

What Our Bladder Cancer Screening Measures
NMP22 (Nuclear Matrix Protein). A protein released by bladder cancer cells into the urine. Elevated NMP22 levels can indicate the presence of bladder tumors, even before visible blood appears in the urine.
BTA (Bladder Tumor Antigen). A protein associated with the extracellular matrix of bladder tumors. BTA testing is non-invasive and supports earlier detection alongside other markers.
Urine Cytology. Microscopic examination of cells shed into the urine, which can reveal abnormal or cancerous cells. Cytology is a cornerstone of bladder cancer surveillance and early screening.
Hematuria Screening. Detection of microscopic blood in the urine, one of the most common early warning signs of bladder cancer.
When combined, these markers give our clinicians a comprehensive picture of your bladder health and help determine whether further diagnostic testing is warranted.

Bladder Cancer Screening FAQ
Is this a diagnostic test for bladder cancer?
No. This is a screening tool designed to detect warning signs of bladder cancer at the earliest possible stage. A positive or inconclusive screening result is followed up with definitive diagnostic testing, typically cystoscopy and imaging performed by a urology specialist.
Do I need to come to your office for the sample collection?
No. You can provide your urine and blood samples at any qualified laboratory in the U.S. and have specimens shipped to our testing partners. We provide clear instructions and lab referral paperwork to make the process simple.
Who should consider bladder cancer screening?
Adults over 55, current or former smokers, individuals with occupational exposure to industrial chemicals or dyes, patients with a family history of bladder cancer, and anyone experiencing unexplained blood in the urine should discuss screening with our team. Early detection is especially valuable for patients in these higher-risk groups.
Will insurance or my employer see my results?
For patients who prefer not to submit screening through insurance, we offer a private-pay option for an additional $150. This gives you control over how your screening information is handled.
What symptoms should prompt me to get screened right away?
Visible or microscopic blood in the urine, frequent urination, painful urination, lower back pain, or pelvic discomfort can all be early warning signs. If you notice any of these symptoms, please schedule a screening consultation promptly.
How soon will I get results?
Turnaround varies by the specific tests ordered and the laboratory used, but most patients receive complete results within seven to fourteen business days after samples are received by the lab.
